About Palm Oil Pathway

Palm Oil Pathway is a comprehensive resource on palm oil, from the oil palm tree and its cultivation, through crude palm oil extraction, red palm oil, palm kernel oil, refined products, industrial derivatives, sustainability, and the global value chain.

Built by someone from a palm oil community in Eastern Nigeria. Written for everyone who wants to understand palm oil honestly.

Where the Palm Oil Pathway Comes From

Palm oil is not a subject Chimeremeze Emeh came to through research. It is something he grew up with.

In Ngwa land, Abia State, Eastern Nigeria, the oil palm tree is not a crop. It is part of the landscape of daily life.

As a culture, Chimeremeze’s community embraced every part of the palm tree, drinking its wine, using the fronds for fencing, crafting brooms from its leaves, turning its sturdy trunks into communal benches, and processing its fruit into the deep red oil that defined the cooking and the culture of the community.

He watched palm fruit being harvested and sterilised. He watched it being pressed and processed.

He used palm oil and palm kernel oil in ways his grandmother used them, not as health supplements or cooking experiments, but as everyday necessities that his community understood deeply and instinctively.

That background is what the Palm Oil Pathway is built on. Not a research project or a content strategy. A lifetime of living with this crop.

Sustainability and Environment

The environmental and social controversies surrounding palm oil are real and important.

We do not ignore these conversations. We engage them honestly.

Community Engagement Programs

Palm Oil Pathway’s community engagement programs bring together local farmers, industry stakeholders, and conservation organisations to build a sustainable palm oil sector in Nigeria.

Palm Oil Pathway advances sustainable palm oil education through rural community workshops in teaching rural palm tree owners how to tend, process and market their palm oil products.

Before now, my rural community only checked back on their palm plantations every other month to check if there is a ripe bunch. They cut it down, process and that is it.

No care or empathy for the tree. This has been the norm ever since, and the consequence is a plantation that is not giving optimum yield.

We come in to sensitize them on how to tend their trees for optimum yield.

These community programs build collective knowledge, encourage dialogue, and equip participants with actionable insights for responsible palm oil production.
